Things to do in OC

Hey girls, I wanted to compile a list of everyone's favorite things to do in our area. It will be nice to have lists to share with visiting relatives, new move-ins, and for ourselves (I know I haven't done nearly enough of the things I should before we end up moving away from here). So, leave your best ideas in the comments of this post, or email me, and I'll compile a complete list and post it. Also, see if you can indicate whether or not the activity costs $ and if so, how much. Thanks in advance everyone. This is going to be so awesome!

Examples:

  • Disneyland $124/person for cheapest annual pass (not counting parking)
  • Aquarium of the Pacific $125/family annual membership, daily admission--Adult: $20.95, Child (3-11): $11.95, Senior (62+): $17.95
  • Science Discovery Center $89/family annual membership, daily admission--Child (3-17) and Senior (55+): $9.95, Adult (18-54): $12.95

Farmer's Market at University Center: Every Saturday 7am-12noon, Free Raffle at 11pm! (arrive 5-10 minutes early to get your ticket). Everytime my family comes to visit, we go to the raffle. It's become sort of a tradition.

We have made kind of a family date out of going to Jump 'n Jammin' (kind of a glorified McDonald's playgound, but much better) and going out to eat at Islands. It's down at the Kelidoscope by the Mission Viejo Mall. I don't remember exactly how much it costs to get in but I think it's about $7 per kid.

One more thing just in case. If you didn't know, UCI students get a pretty good discount for Disneyland tickets through UC Items. The one day park hopper through UC Items is about as much as a single park ticket if you buy it there. So next time you have family in town, don't go to D-land to buy the tickets!

The Santa Ana zoo is a great local zoo. It's the perfect size (not too big, not too small). We always brought lunch and ate at the picnic tables. The cost is $6/adult, $3/age 3-12, free/3 and under. They use to give AAA discounts too (call to double check). www.santaanazoo.org/

This is probably a little far, but the Huntington Library and grounds are fun. You won't see the library, just the gardens, which are spectacular! There's a really fun children's garden, with fun fountains to play in and creatively-designed play areas. These are right next to the greenhouses which are like stepping into a cloud forest. Then there are the other outdoor gardens, which are huge: rose gardens, realistic rain forest area, Japanese garden (beautiful Bonsai trees and more). It's free on the first Thursday of every month, though it's only open 12-4 on weekdays. Weekends 10-4. Check out the website for non-free days: www.huntington.org Don't go when it's too hot, though!

Oh, has anyone been to the Bowers kids museum in Santa Ana? I've heard it's cool.
